How To Fix Your AC Unit
There are few things more annoying than sweltering on a hot day, turning on your air conditioner and it not working. Here are tips from Word of Advice TV on what you can do before calling an AC repair service.
Clean the Air Conditioner
A dirty filter will block cool air coming out of the window air conditioning unit. Unplug the air conditioner. Brush, vacuum, or wash the filter.
Each window unit will have different filters and different ways of getting the filters. Read the instruction manual to find yours. Check to see behind the filter when you take it out for collected dirt. It’s good to clean the whole unit. If possible, take it outside, and hose it down. If the air conditioner cannot be moved, brush or vacuum it.
Clean the Unit and Casing
Take a picture of your air conditioner before taking it apart. This helps you put it back together again. If possible, take the unit, or the part that actually makes the air cooler, from the casing, or the part that protects the unit. The casing needs to be unscrewed or unclipped. The unit then slides out. Plenty of dirt gets caught between the casing and the unit. Avoid spraying any electrical parts behind switches.
